Of course your wedding cake style should suite the theme of your wedding, but today cakes are designed to be a work of art which reflects on the couples individuality and style.
The traditional square and round, stacked and tiered cakes are being decorated in all sorts of designs from Truffle Towers to individually iced Cupcakes.
Choosing The Wedding Cake Style
No matter what you decide you have to keep in mind what type of cake you will be having. As the traditional fruit cake can be made and decorated well ahead of time it leaves the cake maker a lot of time to give intricate detail to the finer decorations, whereas if you are having a chocolate or sponge cake it will have to be made and decorated the day before the wedding leaving the cake maker with not much time to really give it his/her all into the finer details.
Cakes can be “dressed up” with everything you can possibly imagine from flowers to berries, feathers to beads, ribbons, shells, figurines, ornaments and more.... Lets take a look at the different styles of wedding cakes which are available to you as an option:
Round
Because of its popularity, this shape is considered the king of all cakes. While some may consider basic round tiers to be boring, the simplicity and elegance make a round cake the perfect backdrop for interesting textures and colors.

Square
A square cake, with it's sharp lines and angles, always makes a modern statement. Soften the hard edges with elegant touches like flowers, pastel colors, and paper-thin embellishments. Rolled white fondant square cake with double-layer sugar-paste squares dotted with sugar pearls.
Petaled
Also known as scalloped, it has a shape which is a flowerlike, sculpted appearance. Maintain softness with decorations that have a light touch -- we love a little monochromatic texture to showcase the shape, but with a burst of color as the crowning glory. Table Cake
This small wonder takes the place of a traditional centerpiece, the idea being that each table gets its own cake, complete with a table number. The vase and sweet peas on top remove as one piece so that a lucky guest can walk away with a long-lasting token of the wedding.
