Formal Wedding Theme

As always, formal weddings are still an all-time favorite. If you have always dreamed of a formal wedding then you will want to be placing your focus on the key areas, such as location, entertainment and your wedding gown.

Finding Inspiration
When you are looking for some inspiration for your wedding then you may want to try the old fashioned route. Look through your parents wedding photo album, and some good old fashioned movies such as Top Hat, The Thin Man series, The Philadelphia Story.

A great idea for you and your partner may be to take some ballroom dancing lessons to set the dance floor alight.

Make Your Announcement
For a formal occasion such as this, you will be looking at an invitation that is engraved, written in black ink and on a white or ivory paper. Get a professional calligrapher to hand address all the invitations.

You will also want to set the formality of your wedding, so you will want to ensure that your invitations specify "White Tie," "Black Tie," or "Black Tie Optional". And, did you know that it is traditional for formal weddings to not include a reply card?

The Venue
Another very important aspect of a formal wedding is the venue. You will definitely want it to be a glamorous venue with candles to give you your lighting.

The Look
Often with this sort of wedding, less is more. Simple clean designs, and don’t forget the train! The more formal you want your wedding to be, the longer the train can be. A long tulle veil, in a length that will compliment your train and blusher would go perfectly together. Remember that the veil can be designed so that you can remove it during the reception.

If this is not quite what you had in mind, then you could just as easily go with a ball gown with a full tulle, silk, or satin skirt.

Remember that you don’t have to wear a veil if you don’t want to. You could just as easily wear a tiara, beaded comb or a wreath of silk flowers.

The Fare
Start your reception off with a cocktail party, where your bartender serves classic martinis and other classic drinks. You main meal will need to be a sit down multi course event, with an appetizer, salad, sorbet/fish course, entree, cake/dessert and coffee is most common on formal occasions. Elegant china is simply a must.

The Gratitude
You will definitely need to carry your theme through to the end with fantastic and perhaps more classical wedding favors.
