The Groom's Speech

So the groom's speech is the part you have been dreading since you popped the question to your new bride, well your speech shouldn’t be so nerve wracking if you just stick to the basics.

When To Speak & What To Say

Your speech usually comes between the father of the bride and the bestman’s. This is your opportunity to speak on behalf of you and your new wife (DON”T forget to include her throughout your entire speech) and to thank those who helped make this special day possible and perhaps present them with their gifts. Emphasize how important this day has meant to you both and how you could not have done it without their help. Pay special attention to both your mothers as today will surely be an emotional day for them as well.

Thank the bridesmaids on behalf of your wife and mention how lovely they look and that you know your wife has appreciated everything they have done for her through the entire planning process. Be sure to thank those who have from afar, perhaps mention where they have come from if they have travelled from a different country. Mention those who were unable to attend and send good wishes to those who couldn’t make it due to illness etc.

The Grooms Speech

Bring in a bit on how you met and how you eventually plucked up the courage to ask your wife to marry you. Perhaps you could think of something really romantic here – the audience will love it! Think of something funny to tell them but leave the humiliating to the bestman – the last thing you want to do is say the wrong thing about you and your wife on this day.

Lastly, let everyone know how beautiful you think your new wife looks on this day and how you feel you are the luckiest man to now be spending the rest of your life with her. To really get the crowd going, tell her how much you love her. Give toasts to bridesmaids, both parents and then lastly introduce your bestman for his speech – say something like “…..and now for all the untrue stories of us, I give to you John”
