I’m sure you have been to a wedding where someone in the guests has done something silly. We take a look at some of the common
wedding guest mistakes and how you can help prevent them from happening at your wedding.
Not Sending RSVPs
Knowing how many guests are going to be at your wedding is very important. It comes down to catering, flowers, favors, who sits where. The last thing you need is to have guests arrive who have not RSVP’d.
Make sure you user our
guest list Manager to keep track of who has and hasn't RSVP'd. With this you can then follow up with guests who have not RSVP'd by the deadline a week or two after the date.
RSVPs With Extra Guests
Your guest has RSVP’d but there are a few extras on the list - or worse- someone you have never heard of. Either way its not good. The best way to prevent this happening Is to ensure that on the invitation you are specific about who can cant come. If you still get the additions, then you will need to give the guest a call and explain the situation – nicely of course.
Bombarding the Bride
You have sent out the
wedding invitations, and now the phone calls just don’t stop. You are being bombarded with calls about all sorts of things from – places to stay, what to do etc.
Dealing with this is simple – make sure that all the information they need is given to them. For
out of town guests, have a info pack sent out which deals with all the little issues of what, how & where.
Non-registry Gifts
Some guests may feel that buying a present from the registry is impersonal and instead will go out and buy you something they think you need or would like.
Sometimes this may work out for you, but realistically most of the time it wont. No matter what you get, it would be extremely rude not to accept the bright pink slippers, so first things first, you should check if they came with a receipt. If it didn’t, then you can always keep it in your cupboard or ebay it.

Late Arrivals
You know that you are bound to have someone arrive late. You could have an usher remain outside or just inside the door to help any late arrivals to find a seat quickly and quietly so they don’t disturb the ceremony.
If your invites say the ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m., plan on walking down the aisle about 15 minutes after that.
Unexpected Toasts
Its not uncommon for guests to feel that they want to contribute to your wedding with a funny story about you or your groom, and unfortunately, you need to just grin and bear it. You could also have a secret signal for the best man or DJ to help put an end to the toast when it seems as if it is getting out of hand or going on for too long.
Drinking Too Much
It wouldn’t be a wedding if someone didn’t have too many drinks – would it? Having a guest or guests drinking too much can turn to disaster fast, so its an important issue to address.
You can't limit the number of drinks each guest consumes, but you can grant the bartender permission to cut off anyone that's has had one too many. You can also help by making sure that there is plenty of water and snacks around for your guests, and possibly most important – make sure someone is sober and calls a cab for anyone who has had too much to drink.
