Wedding Hair Tips

Choosing a hair style to match your dress is not the easiest thing to do if you are not sure you know what you are looking for. You don't want to lose the effect of your dress by having wrong wedding accessories and having the correct hairstyle is just as important.

Choosing your stylist may be as important as your make-up artist and your gown designer.

  • Backless or specially designed backs are better for updo’s while long locks and ringlets are better with those princess dresses.

  • If you don’t already have a stylist in mind, get recommendations from friends and family.

  • Ask your stylist if their salon will do all your bridesmaids and your trial run for a discounted price.

  • DO NOT attempt to do anything outrageous to your own hair such as cut, color or perm, at least six to eight months before your big day.

  • Treat your hair to conditioning treatments about six months before you wedding – your hair will be in excellent condition for both you wedding and your honeymoon.

  • If you want an updo for your wedding but your hair is too short start growing it out ASAP – hair grows about half an inch a month.

  • For hair accessories try visiting your local boutiques and vintage shops – they will most certainly save a few dollars. (An idea might be to ask your mum or even your grandmother for something they might have – may also be a nice gesture to them)

  • To save a few more dollars, instead of having your stylist come to you on your wedding day, go to the salon on the morning – you may be able to book out the salon for just a few hours to do all your bridal party hair instead of your stylist charging you for a full day and may only spend a few hours.

Wedding Day Hair
  • Have all your coloring done about two weeks before your wedding day, your color always looks best a couple of weeks after it has been done.

  • For those pesky flyaway wispy pieces try blow-drying as close to the hairline as possible and use a strong-hold spray.

  • Wear a top or dress that you can easily remove without pulling it over your head – the last thing you want to do is ruin your hair after just have sat for a few hours.

  • If you are going to have your stylist around all day and you cant decide between 2 styles, perhaps you could have one style for the ceremony and one for the reception. Keep your guests anticipating.

  • Try and avoid washing your hair at least one day before you go to your stylist as freshly washed hair can be slightly slippery and difficult to manage.

  • Make sure you have booked your appointment at least 3 – 4 hours before your ceremony – you most certainly do not want to be rushed on this special day.
