First, we must state that your wedding photography is not an area of the wedding where you would want to be cutting corners. There are however a few ways to save money overall to ensure that your wedding photos don't cost you any more than they should.
Remember, you are going to get what you pay for. There is of course the old saying, "If you are going to pay peanuts, expect monkeys"
Always hire a professional photographer. It isn't recommended that you ask your friend who "takes good pictures" to photograph your wedding. Hire a professional experienced wedding photographer.
You can – if you are willing to risk the quality of your wedding photographs – hire a photography student. They are always looking to gain experience, will give great deals – and if you can find the right one, you can certainly save yourself some money and still get great pictures. Make sure that you do take the same approach when looking for a student as you would with any photographer and ask the right questions.
Ask your photographer to limit their time taking pictures. You can save money by choosing a "ceremony only" package. This is where the photographer takes pictures before and during the ceremony but not at the reception.

The photographer would take all of the formal pictures of the bride and groom, family and wedding party and photograph the ceremony. You can then ask family or friends to take photos of the reception, or place disposable cameras on each table for the guests to use.
When using disposable cameras, you should also take into account the cost of developing the films.
Be careful of all the extras that your photographer may offer, such as the "Deluxe or Ultra" wedding album or a framed wedding portrait. Remember, what really counts are the pictures themselves and not the packaging!
