Modern Bride

Top Wedding Gown Trends This Season

Take a look at some of the wedding gown trends for this season.

After all, who really wants to get married in a wedding gown which was perfect for the 1950's? Well, unless that is the theme of your wedding, but otherwise I doubt many brides would want to. So let us take a look at what the more popular wedding gown trends are at the moment.

Back to wedding gowns...

Top Wedding Gown Trends

  • Geometric shapes, such as cut-outs and patterns, and asymmetrical touches like necklines and bias-cut skirts are updating classic gowns with a modern edge.
  • Strapless continues to be a favorite as it allows free movement and flatters many figures.
  • For brides who crave more coverage then cap sleeves and off-the shoulder looks are current alternatives, and as a bonus: they show off a sexy neckline.

The little details: Flowers, ruffles, draping, beading, ruching and pleating give gowns a touch of intrigue, whimsy and drama.

Glamour. The bride who wants to be “queen for a day” is choosing sumptuous fabrics, metallic embroidery, trails of tiny buttons or rhinestone buckles and broaches.

Tea-length styles are in demand for destination weddings and more relaxed, casual weddings.

  • Tradition seems to be making a return with lacy details on sleeves, necklines, trains and jackets.
  • Color, especially platinum, blush and champagneare showing up everywhere, from sashes to floral accents.

Popular wedding gown accessories

  • Monograms are personalizing everything from the cake topper to the interior of handbags and wedding rings.
  • Handbags and headpieces are also more popular. Straps on some purses can be detached and turned into bracelets while some new, convertible tiaras come with chains and can be worn around the neck instead of in the hair.
  • Barrettes and combs are getting a fresh splash of color with jewel-toned or iridescent crystals which are inspired by wedding décor or “something blue.”
  • Faux-fur stoles, organza capelets or shawls give gowns a rich, fabulous finish.
