What is a wedding registry? “A wedding registry is a service provided by a website or retail stores to assist engaged couples in the communication of gift preferences to wedding guests. Selecting items from store stock, the couple lists desired items and files this list with the chosen merchant.”

Why Have A Wedding Registry?
There are a number of advantages to having a wedding registry, with the obvious one being that you get to choose the gifts that you want or need. This means that you wont end up with gifts that you already have.

Another great advantage is that it means that you wont end up with more than one of the same gift – unless you want too.

How Does A Wedding Registry Work
It is a simple process, and there are a number of ways in which you can do it. You can create your own wedding registry, print it off and drop it at the store(s) you want, or you can register online and create a wedding registry.

The principle is that you notify your guests where your registry is, and they can then go online or to the actual store and purchase a gifts from the store. Once and item is purchased it is removed from the registry so that another couple wont go and purchase the same gift.

Where To Have Your Registry
Most retail shops will allow couples to have a wedding registry – either online or a physical one. The advantage of an online registry with a retail outlet is that it means your guests can all purchase your gifts from your anywhere in the world.

Naturally if your wedding registry is not online, then it would mean that guests would have to go to the store to purchase your gift. Remember that if you are not going for an online store, that you should ask for your wedding registry to be sent to any other stores where your guests may live.
